You’re invited to our Holy Week Services for 2023!
4/2 @ 10:00am – Palm Sunday
On this day, we celebrate the coming of our King into His Holy City Jerusalem. He comes lowly and riding on the foal of a donkey. Our service will begin outside of the sanctuary, weather permitting. Everyone will be given a palm branch and we will process into the sanctuary while singing our first hymn.
4/6 @ 7:30pm – Maundy Thursday
On this day, the Lord gave the mandate (from where we get the word Maundy): “love one another as I have loved you.” On this day, the Lord shows his love by washing His disciples feet and instituting the Lord’s Supper for the first time where He gives His very Body and Blood for His disciples to eat and drink for forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of faith.
4/7 @ 7:30pm – Good Friday
Our Good Friday service is a contemplative one that follows the order of Tenebrae (which means darkness). On this day, we hear of our Lord who has taken on the darkness of our sin and death, thereby making atonement for us through his cross. Easter will not make any sense without this day. On this day we will leave in silence while we await Sunday morning.
4/8 @ 7:30pm – Holy Saturday
On Holy Saturday we hold the Vigil of Easter, remembering that Christ lay in the tomb but death was already conquered. We remember our baptisms. The service includes the passing of the light, Bible stories of God’s actions to rescue His people, music and word that contemplate the mystery of salvation. The service lasts about an hour, and we go home and then return in the morning to conclude our worship with the festive Easter service.
4/9- Easter Sunday
On Easter we celebrate and receive the promises of the Lord who has conquered the grave. Christ’s Resurrection is the day of great joy for it is God’s victory over sin, death, and the devil. On this day we receive the good news that in Baptism, we are in Christ and His Resurrection is our resurrection on the Last Day.
